It was in 1691 that a poor sexton from Skede took a walk on the Kleva mountain and found a stone which was glittering like gold. But the analysis showed that the ore’s gold content was too low. But there was copper in the lump of ore and therefore mining operations were started some years later .

But bigger amounts of gold were found not far from here. If you are lucky, patiently and ably you will probably find a small piece or even some small pieces of gold at our place. We show you the technique of goldpanning and you can take with you what you find in a vial.
